About Clean Energy Stocks

Clean energy has been one of the great destroyers of retail capital, and it is worth being blunt about why. The technology worked and the businesses did not. Solar panels and batteries got dramatically cheaper, which is wonderful for the world and terrible for anyone making them, because falling prices in a manufacturing business means falling margins.

Most of the group depends on things nobody in it controls: subsidy regimes that change with elections, grid interconnection queues, permitting, and the cost of borrowing. Because these are projects funded with debt, higher rates hit the sector twice, killing project economics and the growth valuation at the same time. That combination is what produced the drawdown.

Be careful what the label actually contains. Membership follows the kind of electrical equipment a company makes rather than what it is for, so speculative hydrogen and fuel cell names sit alongside long-established industrial battery and power equipment makers with real earnings. Treated as one theme, the list is misleading. Nuclear has become the corner with the most credible demand story, driven by datacenter power needs.
